The population of Gary proper was 80,294 at the time of the 2010 census, making it the nineth-largest city in the state of Indiana. Gary's population has fallen by 55 percent since 1960, when Gary's population was 178,320. Gary is located adjacent to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, and borders Lake Michigan. The Armstrong House, 1939, by Frank Lloyd Wright, is in Ogden Dunes. Many citizens and politicians have helped to preserve parts of the Indiana Dunes. Those who got their systolic pressure under 120 had a 25 percent lower risk of death. They also had a 30 percent lower risk of cardiovascular problems such as heart attack and stroke. This study provides potentially lifesaving information that will be useful to health care providers as they consider the best treatment options for some of their patients, particularly those over the age of 50.
